Presbyterian Women (PW)
Women, whether guests or members, are invited to join one of the seven Presbyterian Women’s (P.W.) groups. Each group, or circle, meets monthly, except during the summer, in homes or at the church. Some of the circles have been meeting for years, but guests are always welcome. Other circles are more recent. This is a welcoming way to get to know other women, share in conversation around the Bible, and engage in missions projects.
Presbyterian Women Purpose:
Forgiven and freed by God in Jesus Christ, and empowered by the Holy Spirit, we commit ourselves: to nurture our faith through prayer and Bible study, to support the mission of the church worldwide, to work for justice and peace, and to build an inclusive, caring community of women that strengthens the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) and witness to the promise of God’s kingdom.
The PW Circles at St. Paul’s are:
Martha Circle: Meets 2nd Thursday, 10:00 a.m., Fellowship Hall for public luncheon set-up. Host Luncheon with meeting to follow.
The ladies of Martha Circle include women who are home during the day, prefer daytime meetings and enjoy serving through the ministry of the monthly Public Luncheon. The circle is in charge of preparing, setting up for and serving the Luncheon. The food for the luncheon is supplemented with food from the other circles and attended by church members and outsiders. The cost of the luncheon if you did not bring a dish is a $4.00 donation, $1.00 donation if you brought a dish. Meetings and devotions take place after luncheon clean-up. Shirley Stack is the devotions chairwoman. If you feel fulfilled in serving others through the practical ministry of food, this is the circle for you!
Dorcas Circle: Meets 1st Monday, 7:30 p.m., Various Homes
Dorcas Circle includes many women with grown children (or nearly grown!). They are looking for members who desire to participate in circle responsibilities and activities, which include caring outreach to their “adopted” shut-in (through gifts, cards and visits) as well as normal circle participation. The May “meeting” is a lunch outing-great fun! A Christian fun time. Great refreshments are always included.
Esther Circle: Meets 1st Tuesday, 1:30 p.m., Library
All members of the Circle are retirees. We always enjoy being together. We welcome any new ladies. This year we will be studying a Max Lucado book with Marian Mumie. In June we take ourselves out to lunch.
Ruth Circle: Meets 1st Tuesday, 7:30 p.m., Various Homes
Diverse membership focusing on Bible study using a discussion format, rejoicing together and upholding each other in prayer. Bible study leadership rotates among those who are willing to lead. There are also occasional additional outings for dinner and/or movies, and now famous annual cookout (including husbands and children) in August each year.
Lydia Circle: Meets 1st Tuesday, 7:30 p.m., Various Homes
Lots of choir members and teachers belong to Lydia Circle- but that’s not a requirement for membership, honest. In other ways, Lydia Circle is diverse with a wide range of ages and interests. If you want a large, diverse, happy group, this may be the circle for you. The devotional is led by different members of the group. Lydia circle has hosted a couple Fellowship hours and is actively involved in all PW activities. Our June “meeting” is a dinner out together.
Mary Circle: Meets 3rd. Wednesday, 8 p.m., Various Homes
The mothers of young to college age children congregate in Mary’s Circle, where they can share the joys and difficulties of family life. Occasional holiday or other special activities are planned. The devotional is from the Women of Faith Study Guide Series called “Living a Life of Balance”. We will be learning how to manage the challenges of daily life by allowing God to guide us toward the balance we desire.
